Podcast episode 4: Derek Humphry



Our guest today on Euthanasia: Pro and Con is Derek Humphry, an American journalist, author, principal founder in 1980 of the Hemlock Society USA and past president of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies, both of which support the notion of decriminalization of voluntary euthanasia. Mr. Humphry is also the president of the Euthanasia Research & Guidance Organization and advisor to the Final Exit Network. Mr. Humphry was awarded the Martin Luther King Memorial Prize in 1972 and the Saba Prize in 2000

Mr. Humphry’s first wife, Jean Humphry, ended her life on 29 March 1975, with her husband at her side, via an intentional overdose of medication. Mrs. Humphry was suffering from terminal breast cancer. Mr. Humphry told that story from his perspective in his best-selling novel titled Jean's Way. In 1991, Mr. Humphry wrote the suicide handbook titled, Final Exit. His website is www.ergo@efn.org
